WHAT IS NUTRITION ?


 An individual can say nutrition is the study of nutrients in food and how the body uses them but there’s more to it ,nutrition is not just about nutrients but in a balanced quantity, proper nutrition should consist of minerals, phytonutrients and antioxidants .

 A balanced nutrition is critical at all stages of life and nutrition is crucial for growth and development because as a person gets older proper nutrition is required for energy. To eat a healthy diet u need to understand the 5 food groups which are ;

Starchy foods

fruits and vegs

Dairy 

Protein and

Fats  






These foods are grouped together because they provide similar amount of the key nutrients of the food groups. These foods are then broken down to nutrients. Our body needs these kinds of nutrients which are;

carbohydrates

proteins

fats

minerals

vitamins and

water 


 Carbohydrate protein and fats are macronutrients needed in large amounts they help maintain body system and structure while minerals and vitamins are micronutrients which help in growth ,brain development and fighting diseases in the body. 

Good nutrition is much more than something to fill your stomach -what you eat can affect your health, energy, and well-being. The most significant feature of good diet is variety. we all know variety is the spice of life ,but have you ever  thought that when you eat only a particular type of food you miss out on other varieties of important food that will give you a complete balanced diet? Eating the right mix of food will help you feel and look best at any age.

  According to registered dietician nutritionist with experience in teaching Nutrition, food rich in carbohydrates, protein, fruits and vegetables should be eaten at least one serving of each meal  to maintain a balanced meal. The body starts to respond to healthy dietary changes as soon as they are made. This is good because a diet will eventually reduce the risk of obesity ,diabetes and heart diseases ,as well as improve a person's overall sense of well-being.

   To wrap it up; Be vigilant with what you eat, eating healthy food improves the body system and prevents you from seeing the doctor regularly .Remember “The doctor of the future will no longer treat the human frame with drugs but rather will cure and prevent diseases with nutrition''.
